There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.

This has always been one of my favorite quotes – one of the few that I can usually remember, even with my pre-senile functioning brain.  And one that has been hugely influential for me at other times of transition in my life. After waking with feelings of despair, and then writing for a bit, much clarity suddenly came to me.  I am sitting with my decisions now, to see how they feel.  It’s fascinating. And distracting from my sadness, if nothing else.  I will say no more about it all for now, until I have thoroughly chewed these thoughts, and seen if I can swallow them, or if I must spit out some bones.

Sometimes it all depends on how much brass you have.
