This was taken on our first Mother-Daughter Labor Day trip six years ago. We had a wonderful time, and Kelsea wandered into many places she shouldn’t have. She’s her mother’s daughter.
Alcatraz Island, San Francisco, California.
Quote of the day: “Blessed are the hearts that can bend; they shall never be broken.” — Albert Camus
Daily gratitudes:
MKL’s spirit
Being only sprained, not broken
The sound of snow falling
Smoked oysters
Unfamiliar songbirds, just passing through

Up and down the hillsides, and into restricted areas. She claimed the signs were posted in locations farther down than where she wandered. Actually, she was correct.

this is a great photo… so atmospheric. i love the Camus quote, too. one of my favorite poems that i like to perform at readings goes:
“…like when the lead singer called her a heartbreaker, and i remember thinking ‘break’ is really not the right word. hearts aren’t like porcelain. they’re all muscle and mallow. if i were to pluck yours out of its wet cavity and throw it on the empty dance floor, it might even bounce.”
