Today we have our first “official” fire of the season, in the Evergreen/Conifer area, which we just drove through last weekend. Homes are being evacuated, and the hot, dry winds remind us all of how tenuous a tinderbox our lovely state can be. Let’s hope our brave and busy smokejumpers can get this one out quickly. It’s a small one right now, only five acres, but the winds can push it along faster than a car can drive.
Quote of the day: “And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” — F. Scott Fitzgerald
