No, not actual flames. We’ve seen enough of those in Colorado this year. These are flames of sunset, sparking through the clouds over the Intercoastal Waterway. There may be buildings in the way of our view of the Sound and its sunsets, but they have come to be old friends in our line of vision, and the end of the day would not be as lovely without them.

Quote of the day: “You want proof there’s a God? Look outside, watch a sunset.” — Frank Peritti

Daily gratitudes:
Mr. Man snuggling and snuffling
Pork green chile so hot it makes me cry
Thunder
That I never get sick enough to be sick – just under the weather
Clothilde’s new little sidekick

I love the way the sea paints endless pictures in the sand.

Quote of the day: “Sensuality does not wear a watch but she always gets to the essential places on time.  She is adventurous and not particularly quiet.  She was reprimanded in grade school because she couldn’t sit still all day long.  She needs to move.  She thinks with her body. ” — J. Ruth Gendler

Daily gratitudes:
Hugs and kisses when I am teary
Trying to help Kelsea find a metaphor for herself
That when Mr. Man sits in my lap, he covers my entire torso
Pigeons when they are flirting
Throw-together spicy dinners

Would that I were there…

Quote of the day: “Listen to the people who love you. Believe that they are worth living for even when you don’t believe it. Seek out the memories depression takes away and project them into the future. Be brave; be strong; take your pills. Exercise because it’s good for you even if every step weighs a thousand pounds. Eat when food itself disgusts you. Reason with yourself when you have lost your reason.” — Andrew Solomon

Daily gratitudes:
Mourning doves
Comfortable boots
Proofreading
Liking how I look in the mirror
Finding bargains

But still, I felt compelled to publish this image of a storm looming over Topsail Beach a few years ago. Topsail weathered Sandy better than other parts of North Carolina, and I am sending blessing thoughts to all of you who are in the throes of the storm tonight.

Quote of the day: “You can either be a victim of the world or an adventurer in search of treasure. It all depends on how you view your life.”  —  Paulo Coelho

Daily gratitudes:
Storm coverage
Catfish
Accomplishing things
The future
A single flame rose
