Only a few days away…the sun will be rising from the ocean, instead of setting into it, but I’m not particular. In the meantime, I had to see my little baby girl off on her first cross-country drive last night – she’s going with three other girls, and I think it’s just a taste of how hard it will be to send her off to college. At least this trip, I will see her on Friday.

Daily gratitudes:
A good night’s sleep
Outlander Book #2
Packing
Having a strong, independent woman as my daughter
Juggling to-dos

While this probably isn’t Harry’s best side, I thought it was an interesting view. After all, when was the last time you had a chance to look at the underside of a heron’s chin?  Or is that a chin? Hmmmm.

Quote of the day: “We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.” — e.e. cummings

Daily gratitudes:
Blue sky
Laughing with Kelsea
That MKL is feeling a little better
Kale chips
Carrying Mr. Man around when he’ll let me

Little museums can be full of lovely little surprises. A still life reflecting the past, carefully displayed on an old coverlet, can still glow in the sunshine. And we’ll disregard the old wives tale that a hat on the bed is bad luck.

Quote of the day: “Love is giving up control. It’s surrendering the desire to control the other person. The two—love and controlling power over the other person—are mutually exclusive. If we are serious about loving someone, we have to surrender all the desires within us to manipulate the relationship.” — Rob Bell

Daily gratitudes:
That MKL is my handyman
The coolness of my old house on hot days
Green
Snuggling
Beach webcams

Still waiting for warmth worth basking in here in Colorado.

Sunset Seagull

Anna Maria Island, Florida.

Quote of the day: “Love is the voice under all silences, the hope which has no opposite in fear; the strength so strong mere force is feebleness: the truth more first than sun, more last than star…” — e.e. cummings

Daily gratitudes:
Lingering goodbyes
My duck robe
The rain at night
My faux holstein cowboy boots
MKL’s wonderful texts

I’m not sure if he was saving a seat for me or for himself, but really, he was there first.

It’s getting better here in Colorado – we had blue skies today – but I’m still wishing to be here on the wide white beach.

The Wide White Beach

Holmes Beach, Anna Maria Island, Florida.

Quote of the day: “There comes a time in every life when the world gets quiet and the only thing left is your own heart. So you’d better learn to know the sound of it. Otherwise you’ll never understand what it’s saying.”  —  Sarah Dessen

Daily gratitudes:
Friendly bus passengers
The positive attitude of the one-legged woman
Getting to see MKL today
Blue skies

I think we visited this little shop three times while we were on the island. It had a plethora of amazing and adorable things, and this is just one little corner that I wanted to share.

Our little slice of paradise reflects the sunset every night. This evening, we dug our toes in the sand and sat on our little seawall, drinking wine as the sun sank into the sea.

Daily gratitudes:
Small treasures
Mimosas
Friendly strangers
An infinite number of books
Art

When we arrived yesterday, to cold and stormy weather 20 degrees below normal, this gentleman was here to greet us on our patio. He is tame enough that if you dine outside and don’t feed him, he will jump up on the table to help himself. We haven’t had that happen yet, but once it warms up, we’ll look forward to it. All that matters right now is that we’re here, with the sand and the sea at our doorstep.

Harry the Great Blue Heron

Holmes Beach, Florida

Quote of the day: “We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable.  We can never have enough of nature.”  —  Henry David Thoreau

Daily gratitudes:
Excellent dreams
Harry the Great Blue Heron
Grocery stores in different parts of the country
Finally getting to the sea again
