Let’s stay in Hawaii for a few days, shall we? White sand, driftwood trees, volcanic rocks, blue water. Some beach, somewhere.

The Big Island, Hawaii.

Quote of the day: “Are the days of winter sunshine just as sad for you, too? When it is misty, in the evenings, and I am out walking by myself, it seems to me that the rain is falling through my heart and causing it to crumble into ruins.” — Gustav Flaubert

Daily gratitudes:
Giving blood
MKL, even when I don’t see him
My winter coat

I think the title of this post says it all.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Quote of the day: “I realise there’s something incredibly honest about trees in winter, how they’re experts at letting things go.” — Jeffrey McDaniel

Daily gratitudes:
The lights on the Christmas tree
A beach in sight
Having Kelsea home for a few more days
New calendars
The grand tour of one of MKL’s Christmas presents (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Guam, Hawaii…I wonder where it will go next on its trip to Colorado?)

I love the smell of line-dried laundry. It brings back so many memories. My parents never had a dryer the entire time I lived at home. But I guess I love the convenience of dryers more. In some places, that convenience is a luxury, and so we still have scenes like this.

Wailuka, Hawaii.

Quote of the day: “Dare to be brave today, and trust that when you extend your wings, you will fly.”  —  Mary DeMuth

Daily gratitudes:
A beach in sight
Island-A-Day calendar
Love and reassurance

Beautiful sunsets into the ocean never get old.  I hope to see the green flash one day – I know it’s not a myth.

Kailua-Kona, The Big Island, Hawaii.

Quote of the Day: “My soul is from elsewhere, I’m sure of that, and I intend to end up there.”  —  Rumi

Daily Gratitudes:
A gorgeous weekend
Sleeping in today
When Kelsea is happy
Treasures found
Birdsong reminiscent of spring

This Strawberry Crab had passed on to the Next Place, but he appeared to have done so very peacefully, with his remaining claws folded before him.

Quote of the day: “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”  —  Rumi

Daily gratitudes:
Touches of pink at sunset
El Corazon
The softness of the air in the late afternoon today
That my anxiety has lessened
Kendra’s pumpkin seeds

Spectacular sunsets in Hawaii.  We’ve had amazing sunsets here in Colorado this past week, but somehow I haven’t been able to get any pictures.  So this one will have to suffice.

Kailua Kona, Hawaii.

Quote of the day: “The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles. No matter what you say about it, there is always that which you can’t.”  —  Christopher Paolini

Daily gratitudes:
Couples walking in hug mode
The woman with her cat on a leash
Ping pong tables in the sunshine
A lovely Fall day
The way my earrings swing when I walk

My day at the Place of Refuge on the Big Island was rather grey, but it made for some lovely images.

Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, Hawaii.

Quote of the day: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them.”  —  Oprah Winfrey

Daily gratitudes:
Politicians who dig their own graves
Finding a new mystery series (well, new to me)
Having Christine back in the office today
Two dozen roses and a little vase of snapdragons from people who love me

It seemed that each night at sunset, something was out in the water enjoying it – a pleasure boat, a canoe, a surfer. It was perfect just watching the sun sink into the sea.

Kona, Hawaii.

Quote of the day: “Sometimes you don’t need someone to pull you out of darkness. You need them to sit there with a candle letting you know you are not alone.”  —  From You ARE Enough …  (and for Pam)

Daily gratitudes:
The kid on the street today who said he liked my dress
Instant messaging
Pie and collard greens with MKL
Big Horse and Medium Horse
Snuggly Cat

This little Hawaiian guy loved his morning honey.

I know it’s technically January 12, but since I’m still up (just finished working), I felt compelled to post.  At least I did one thing today that WASN’T about working.
