I love it when the beach chairs match the sea.

Little Apple Bay, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Quote of the day: “Every living thing requires love to survive for without it, we die.”  —  Sanjo Jendayi

Daily gratitudes:
The slimmest crescent of moon
The scent of gardenias
The cheese girl at Whole Foods
My cow robe
Aspen eyes
Thunder Cat

The view from the Jolly Roger Pier, looking south to the end of the island.

Topsail Beach, North Carolina.

Quote of the day: “Love is like the sea. It’s a moving thing, but still and all, it takes its shape from the shore it meets, and it’s different with every shore.”  —  Zora Neale Hurston

Daily gratitudes:
Pigeons with one white tail feather
Water
Goosedown pillows
The gentleness of falling leaves
Prayers for healing and comfort

Kelsea and I went to Pugs in the Park in City Park (Denver) today. Hundreds of pugs, a costume contest, and if I didn’t know better, I’d have thought that Amanda of The Daily Puglet was there shooting with Nikon. (But I think she’s on the right coast.) This not-so-little guy was dressed as “a pirate, but he didn’t like his hat very much.

Denver, Colorado.

Quote of the day: “Wrinkles should only indicate where smiles have been.”  —  Mark Twain

Daily gratitudes:
Time with Kelsea
Drives with MKL
Beautiful skies
Roses
Rain

These two beauties are from “Horse Day” which happened with my sister-in-law last weekend. MKL and I are just back from a busy, lovely weekend – we need an extra day to recover, but isn’t that so often the way?

Larimer County, Colorado.

Quote of the day: “No Spring nor Summer has such grace as I have seen in an Autumned face.”  —  John Donne

Daily gratitudes:
Winding mountain roads
Unexpected Amish people
Small towns
Truck stop coffee
Soaking in hot springs

I have no idea what attracted the attention of this little flock, but they were obviously enraptured. As I seem to be in a phase in which I am totally enamored with poultry, I bid you a good weekend with this image.

Llanhennock, Monmouthshire, Wales.

Quote of the day: “It is our duty as men and women to proceed as though the limits of our abilities do not exist.”  —  Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Daily gratitudes:
The big red ball of sun this morning
Realizing that pigeons are, in fact, pigeon-toed
Keeping random hilarious thoughts to myself
My pink orchid earrings
Apples
A weekend respite with MKL

Today’s guest poet  —  Charles Bukowski

nobody but you

nobody can save you but
yourself.
you will be put again and again
into nearly impossible
situations.
they will attempt again and again
through subterfuge, guise and
force
to make you submit, quit and/or die quietly
inside.

nobody can save you but
yourself
and it will be easy enough to fail
so very easily
but don’t, don’t, don’t.
just watch them.
listen to them.
do you want to be like that?
a faceless, mindless, heartless
being?
do you want to experience
death before death?

nobody can save you but
yourself
and you’re worth saving.
it’s a war not easily won
but if anything is worth winning then
this is it.

think about it.
think about saving your self.

(My note: Ordinarily (?) I’d imagine the appropriate picture to accompany this poem would be something spiritual or funereal, but considering who the author is, I felt a picture of pint might be more approps. Although he might have found a pint to be both spirtual and funereal.)

The chrome of a 1950’s BelAir reflects the blue sky and history of Cripple Creek.

Cripple Creek, Colorado.

Quote of the day: “I never ask a man what his business is, for it never interests me. What I ask him about are his thoughts and dreams.”  —  H.P. Lovecraft

Daily gratitudes:
Road trips
Horse days
Beautiful days
Red earth
Laughter

We are having a pretty early Fall here in Colorado.  When Kelsea and I were away for Labor Day, the aspens were already starting to turn.  It’s been so dry that colors may be elusive altogether.  MKL and I head for Cottonwood next weekend, and we hope to catch what may be the tail end of that golden part of autumn.  Until then, here are lingering wildflowers caressing a mountain view.

Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado.

Quote of the day: “Any change for better or for worse always requires courage. Abandoning old ideas that usually give us a comfortable sensation of safety and control is not easy at all.”  —  Marcelo Gelciser

Daily gratitudes:
That my niece found my missing pre-engagement ring
That MKL always carries handkerchiefs
Sneaking Kelsea out of class (on the phone) to talk to her
Firefighters
Putting the past to rest – a thing that must be done many times

Sounds like the title of a gothic novel, doesn’t it? But it’s an exquisite place in Wales, that is still steeped in an air of mystery and devotion. The buildings on the grounds date from 1136 to 1536.  Would that we still valued our past to retain our buildings for nearly a thousand years.

Tintern, Monmouthshire, Wales.

Quote of the day: “Real strength never impairs beauty or harmony, but it often bestows it; and in everything imposingly beautiful, strength has much to do with the magic.”  —  Herman Melville

Daily gratitudes:
My happy (if slightly manic) daughter
Positive attitudes
Sharing with someone you love
My pork green chile so spicy it makes me weep
Faded roses
Mornings that feel like fall

Doors always lead somewhere, but sometimes you will never know what’s on the other side.

St. Elmo, Colorado.

Quote of the day: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”  —  Steve Jobs

Daily gratitudes:
Popcorn
Shared emotions
Happy old dogs
Feathers
Books to be read
Understanding hearts
