This was taken on our first Mother-Daughter Labor Day trip six years ago. We had a wonderful time, and Kelsea wandered into many places she shouldn’t have.  She’s her mother’s daughter.

A View From Alcatraz

Alcatraz Island, San Francisco, California.

Quote of the day: “Blessed are the hearts that can bend; they shall never be broken.”  — Albert Camus

Daily gratitudes:
MKL’s spirit
Being only sprained, not broken
The sound of snow falling
Smoked oysters
Unfamiliar songbirds, just passing through

Christmas was amazing. My stupid cold (are there any smart ones? I don’t know, maybe this one is smarter than me) is still here — 13 days and counting and NOTHING seems to touch it. The days are getting longer, which we greet with a happy “Woot!” It got up to 23 today. And I am ready to remember warm, green days.

Northern Colorado.

Quote of the day: “Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”  —  Rabindranath Tagore

Daily gratitudes:
Pigeons that plump themselves up to stay warm
Watching the ice skaters downtown
Napping on the bus
The pretty Christmas tree
Overhearing conversations on the shuttle

It was unbelievably cold and windy and rainy, but I snuck outside the rental car long enough to take this picture. Had I tried to get any closer, I’d have been blown out to sea.

Strumble Head, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Quote of the day: “When you loved me I gave you the whole sun and stars to play with. I gave you eternity in a single moment, strength of the mountains in one clasp of your arms, and the volume of all the seas in one impulse of your soul.”  –  George Bernard Shaw

Daily gratitudes:
Congenial relationships
A lot of amazing sunsets recently
How roses transform into something strangely beautiful when they die

The grass surrounding this bench at the Heritage Inn was as soft as any I’ve ever tiptoed through. And the view from the bench isn’t bad either.

Heritage Inn, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Quote of the day:  “Amidst the worldly comings and goings, observe how endings become beginnings.” – Tao Te Ching

Daily gratitudes:
The Cornell U. Red Tail Hawk’s Nest Cam
Red-wing blackbirds
The foot oil lamp
My glow from being in love
